Treofan presents product innovations for In-Mould Labels and Spot-Patch Labels at the Labelexpo Europe 2003
Raunheim, 24th September 2003. The bonding of the plastic label with the containers during the forming process not only saves a separate process for attaching the label but it also saves a material separation in a later recycling. In-Mould Labels (IML) is thus becoming more important due to the growing demand for one-substance packaging. Treofan, in order to satisfy the increasingly sophisticated requirements for IML, has extended its product range by new cast polypropylene films (CPP films) for the injection moulding application. The non-oriented PP films are being presented for the first time on the Treofan stand, at the Labelexpo Europe from 24th to 27th September 2003 in Brussels.
The multilayer PP films are manufactured by the coextrusion cast technology. The new cast films have a good performance, however their advantage is a reduced shrinkage after the injection moulding giving containers without distortion or orange peel. This means that also large containers with a perfectly smooth surface can be produced.
The cast films are available in transparent (CTD 82) and white (CWD 80 and 100). Their corona treatment guarantees good printing properties.
A new technology at the trade fair stand of Treofan are polypropylene spot patch labels which offer technical advantages. With this new technology new possibilities can be created in the product presentation. The PP labels are applied on conventional wet glue applicators so there is no need for large investments in machinery. The transparent film is excellently suited for the growing market of applications in the “no label look". As well as transparent film, Treofan also offers a white film in high gloss for the design of high-value labels.
The Treofan group was founded in 2002 - a merger of the Dor-Moplefan-Shorko group with film manufacturer Trespaphan. The Treofan group develops, produces and markets OPP(oriented polypropylene), CPP(cast polypropylene) and BOPLA(biaxial oriented polylactic acid films) under the brand names Trespaphan®, Biophan®, Shorko© and Moplefan®. World-wide, the group employs about 2,200 staff at 11 locations with an annual production capacity of a total of 280,000 tons. www.treofan.com www.trespaphan.com

On Wednesday, June 26th, 2002 during the last general meeting of OPMA, in Zurich, Michael Yanovski, Managing Director and Vice President of Moplefan SpA was appointed, by the assembly, Vice President of Opma.
OPMA is a non-profit organization representing most of Europe's producers of BOPP films. It was founded in the mid-1970's by seven of the principal European producers, with the objectives: promote the use of oriented polypropylene films in packaging and industrial applications, and to provide a forum for discussion of issues relevant to the industry.
Moplefan Group is one of the major manufactures and distributors of polypropylene film (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene -BOPP-, Cast and Sheet) in the world and today operates through 6 production plants in Italy, Belgium and Israel, with a total capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year.
OPMA Oriented Polypropylene Film Manufacturers Association. OPMA is a non-profit organization representing most of Europe's producers of Oriented Polypropylene films (OPP) and whose purpose is to promote the use of OPP films in the packaging and industrial markets.
The Association was established in the mid-1970's by seven of Europe's principal producers with the Secretariat services of Peat Marwick Mitchell. Its principal purpose was to monitor trade statistics for OPP and cellulose films (substitution of cellulose films providing the main market for OPP films in the early days).
The European market for OPP films has grown enormously since OPMA's inception, from 40,000 tonnes in 1976 to 700,000 tonnes in 2001, testimony to the popularity of these versatile, innovative and cost-effective films. This growth in demand has been accompanied by a significant rise in the number of producers of OPP, most of whom are members of OPMA.
OPMA members have manufacturing sites spread across Europe from Britain to Turkey. The organization is non-exclusive and membership is open to all European producers of OPP films.
The Association is headquartered in Zurich where meetings of the Management Committee are held under the impartial auspices of the Secretariat, and in the presence of an independent legal representative.
The objectives of the Association, elaborated in the Statutes, are to:
Promote the use of Oriented Polypropylene films in packaging and industrial applications Provide a forum for discussion on issues relevant to the industry Much of the Association's work in recent years had focused on the improvement of and compliance with industry standards, ranging from SHE (Safety, Health & Environment), to Regulatory Affairs and technical specifications. The proliferation of new legislation affecting the flexible packaging industry has required particular and sustained attention.
The Association also works to shape and facilitate compliance with environmental legislation through its links with other industry bodies such as EuPC (European Plastics Converters Federation) and has been instrumental in developing a wider appreciation of the environmental benefits of OPP films.
Where sustained effort is required, sub-committees operate; thus the Safety Committee seeks to benchmark and establish industry best practice, and the Technical Committee concentrates on test methods, standardization, nomenclatures and specifications which are rigorously pursued and applied.
Finally, the Association compiles industry statistics through the offices of its Secretariat, to monitor market trends in and across Europe.
